What to expect during your chin augmentation

Prior to your procedure, you will have a private consultation with Dr. Murphy in the comfort of his Palm Beach Gardens office. During that meeting, he will evaluate your facial features as a whole and talk to you about how the proportions of your nose, eyes and cheeks will influence the outcome of your surgery. From there, he will provide personalized guidance regarding which procedures will best accomplish your unique goals.

For example, some patients only need a chin augmentation to balance out their facial features, while others will see maximum aesthetic results by combining the surgery with a rhinoplasty. You can rest assured that Dr. Murphy will always be honest with you regarding which procedures are in your best interest and will produce the cosmetic results you want. Before surgery can begin, Dr. Murphy will first need to select your ideal chin implant.

During this process, he will take special care to choose a shape and size that will create a natural-looking chin that is in alignment with the vision you have for your facial appearance. To place the implant you’ll be lightly sedated so as to maximize your comfort. From there, he will make a precise incision underneath the chin. Through that opening, he will place your custom-formed implant in front of the jawline before suturing it in place and closing the incisions.

Recovery

Chin augmentation is a relatively quick procedure that involves a fairly easy recovery period for our patients in West Palm Beach, FL and surrounding areas. In general, we advise our clients to take about a week off of work, because during that time it’s very common to experience swelling and bruising in the area. During the initial recovery period, you’ll want to keep your head elevated to minimize any swelling, but you should be able to perform light activities around the house without much discomfort. After several days, we’ll have you return to the office so Dr. Murphy can remove the sutures and evaluate your progress to make sure you’re healing as expected.
