A facelift is the ideal surgical procedure for full facial rejuvenation. By subtly lifting and tightening the underlying facial muscles and repositioning facial skin and tissue, you can restore the refreshed, smooth facial appearance of your youth. A precision facelift has longevity and very natural-looking results that far outstrip other facial rejuvenation treatments.
What is a facelift?
A facelift is a surgical procedure that involves discreet incisions which allow the surgeon to access the underlying muscles and tissues of the face. As time passes, facial muscles, skin and tissues lose their firm, supple quality, stretching and drifting downwards, leaving you with etched-in wrinkles and creases, jowls, a sagging jawline, and an aging appearance. The facial muscles are the scaffolding that support the skin, and as they loosen, the face begins to sag.
Cheeks droop, jowls appear, and the jawline loses is youthful definition. When gravity seems to have the winning hand, a facelift is the best option to restore youthful vitality to your appearance. By lifting the facial muscle structure to its former youthful position, beautiful and natural looking results can be achieved – far superior to the tight, stretched look of older surgical techniques.
How will I look after a facelift?
A facelift has exceptional benefits, as it is a comprehensive procedure that truly addresses the underlying issues of facial aging. Some of the many benefits include:
- Long-lasting results
- Can rejuvenate the cheeks, jawline, and double chin

Should I have a facelift?
Candidates for a facelift are living with facial aging beyond what injectables, chemical peels, skin resurfacing, or other non-surgical treatments can resolve. Issues such as drooping jowls, sagging cheeks, or deep wrinkles on cheeks, around the mouth, and on the chin can be smoothed and restored. Candidates for a facelift are typically in their late 40s or older and want to restore a more youthful look to their facial features. Ideal candidates:
- Are in good health
- Have no ongoing infections
- Are medically safe to undergo surgery
- Are non-smokers
- Are tired of seeing the signs of facial aging
- Have lost jawline definition
- Have an unsightly double chin
- Cheeks have drifted downward, creating jowls
- Have realistic expectations about the procedure, recovery, and results

The facelift procedure
A full facelift takes between four to six hours or longer, depending on the extent of the surgery and whether or not other procedures are being performed in the same surgical appointment. General or local anesthesia is administered for your comfort. Incisions are placed around the creases of the ears and into the hairline. From there the muscles are tightened as well as restoring the position of the underlying muscles, called an SMAS facelift. The SMAS Once the sutures are in place, protective bandages will be used, and you may have drainage tubes to relieve swelling.
Should I have a full facial rejuvenation by adding procedures?
Procedures that can be performed alongside a facelift include:
- A neck lift to restore youthful elegance to the neck
- Augmentation to cheeks or chin
- Brow lift
- Nose reshaping
- Eyelid surgery

What is the difference between a mini facelift and a full facelift?
A mini facelift only lifts the lower third of the face and typically takes about two hours to perform. This procedure restores definition to the jawline and lifts the lower portion of your cheeks. A full facelift is more comprehensive and lifts the entire face. Your facelift will be customized to your cosmetic goals so that it addresses all of the signs of aging that trouble you.
How long is the recovery, and what should I expect?
The first 30 days after a facelift are the most crucial in your recovery and you should anticipate taking the first two weeks off from work or other activities following your procedure. You will need to rest with your head elevated and keep facial motions to a minimum to avoid placing strain on the incisions and sutures. Arrange for help during the first two to three days after surgery. You will simply want to rest and will need the help. You should ensure that you will have a restful and stress-free two weeks so your healing and recovery is as smooth as possible. Expect your incisions to have fully healed after six weeks. At this point you will be able to resume strenuous exercise and activities.
When will I see the results?
You can expect to see results continuing to develop over the next six months as swelling completely fades and your face settles into its new, beautifully rejuvenated form.
