Facelift

In time, gravity, sun exposure, and the stresses of daily life take their toll on our faces: deep creases appear beside the mouth, the jawline slackens, folds and fat deposits appear on the neck. Facelifts counteract these problems by removing fat and tightening skin and muscles, giving your face a fresher, youthful look. Dr. Murphy's surgical techniques result in a natural appearance. After surgery, patients often appear 10-15 years younger.

Dr. Murphy may suggest combining your facelift with a browlift, eyelid lift or nose reshaping for more dramatic facial rejuvenation. Incisions are placed in inconspicuous places such as behind the hairline and in the natural folds and of the face and ears. The scars will fade with time. A facelift lasts forever, but you continue to age. Years later, your face will continue to look better than if you never had the procedure.

Mini Facelift (S-Lift)

The S-Lift is a Mini-Facelift that provides an overall lift to your neck and the lower third of your face. Compared to a traditional facelift, it is a quicker operation with fewer complications and a much faster recovery. The S-Lift is particularly well suited for middle-aged and younger patients and can make a dramatic change in the way you look by tightening sagging muscles and skin of the cheeks, chin and neck.

Dr. Murphy may recommend combining your S-Lift with other procedures such as eyelid surgery and liposuction of the neck. Results from your S-Lift can be further enhanced with laser skin resurfacing to smooth wrinkles and provide greater skin contraction.

Operating on one side of your face at a time, Dr. Murphy will make a narrow "S" shaped incision in section of skin from the area forward of your ear. The skin is lifted, tightened and the underlying muscles and tissues are repositioned. Excess fat and tissue is removed. Dr. Murphy will close the incision using fine sutures. An S-Lift normally takes less than 2 hours.

Midface Lift

As we age and our skin loses elasticity and tone, the cheeks and eyelids tend to sag, creating a tired or haggard look. Sometimes a traditional Facelift is the answer however if there are depressions in the area around the nose, eyes and corners of the mouth you may need Midface Lift. This procedure is particularly effective for patients seeking cheek elevation when the neck and areas beneath the chin do not require lifting Dr. Murphy will be able to restore a smooth, youthful look to the lower eyelids and cheeks.

With the use of Endoscopic technology Dr. Murphy will be able perform Midface Lift surgery through 2 small incisions within the hairline leaving no visible scars and reducing recovery time. An endoscope (a small, camera-like device) is inserted through the incisions to view the procedure internally. Once the incisions are made, Dr. Murphy will lift and adjust the fat and muscle tissue, pulling up the middle of the face to smooth and tighten the skin.

Finally, Dr. Murphy sutures the incisions and the healing process begins. After a Midface Lift, typical recovery time is about one week. Because this procedure is more focused and less invasive than a traditional deep plane face lift, Midface Lift patients experience quicker results with less bruising and swelling.

The mid facelift is able to correct under-eye bags, hollowness in the upper cheeks, and prominent nasal folds. This procedure is also referred to as the "Scarless Facelift"

Facelift Revision

Time doesn't stop after you get a facelift. In fact, depending on how the lift was performed and which procedures you elected along with it, it may deteriorate faster than usual and distort your features in new ways. As a double board certified facial plastic surgeon Dr. Murphy has a better understanding and the highest level of surgical skill in working with the underlying structures of the face than most general plastic surgeons. Dr. Murphy routinely performs revisions on facelift surgeries that have not held up so well over time and even those that have immediately resulted in unsatisfactory appearances.

Dr. Murphy has helped patients from around the world realize the dreams they had when they first opted for facelifts.

In traditional facelift methods, drooping and sagging of the features of the lower part of the face are corrected by pulling the muscles and the connective tissues beneath the skin back toward the ear. This action, along with the removal of excess skin, moves the features back into a more youthful position. However, older methods of performing a facelift do not address the fact that some features, most importantly parts of the cheeks and eyelids, sag downward as aging occurs. Thus, as time goes on and the lifted features continue to be pulled down by gravity, the horizontal suspension fails to hold up and the facial skin sags once more. This can occur even if the older traditional facelift was performed properly and the patient has followed all of the surgeon's instructions. As a result of these types of problems, revision of an existing facelift may need to be carried out with SMAS-platysma revision facelift.

Another problem with older style facelifts is that they can distort other features. Most commonly, the earlobe is stretched toward the front of the face as a result of the fact that the tissue underneath it is supporting facial structures along the jaw. This result is generally considered undesirable and often necessitates of revision of the facelift.

A facelift gone bad can be more unattractive than an aging face that has had no work at all. Fortunately, revision of failed facelift procedures is possible. Dr. Murphy of Palm Beach Facial Plastic Surgery is adept at this procedure and thoroughly understands the concerns of those who need it.

When properly carried out, this SMAS-platysma revision facelift procedure can rejuvenate the patient's face once more and create a look that should last much longer.
